Great class....

Happy Sunday everyone!

We had a great class yesterday - I thought I would share a bit of it with you....
Catherine taught this class.  I speak fondly of her because she is a great talent!
Kim (sitting down) takes every class Catherine offers :)
The class is the "Bears Paw" behind Catherine....

Julie (with her back to us - she doesn't like her picture taken with no make-up :) and Maureen.  Both fun gals and both great quilters!
See Julie's pile of Bear Paw blocks behind her machine?
Ellen who does very precise piecing was having a great time....
My first corner complete - I just love this quilt!!!!

We had a great day and progress was certainly made by all of us.  We have a re-cap in late Feb. to see where we are.  My guess - we will all finish! Fun day had by all....

For this Sunday I thought I would share a few things that make me SMILE.....
Someday they will fit...but for now just cute :)

No words necessary....
I do hope you have a Sunday filled with all things that make you SMILE.... So for now....

Remember - SMILE always...

First of the year tomorrow....

Happy Friday everyone!

It has been raining ALL DAY here in San Diego.  Everyone here loves a day like this. We get them so seldom....  It was the perfect day to stay in my room and just sew prep work for my class tomorrow!

This is called "Bear Paw" taught by Catherine Hughes.  She is a great quilter here in So Cal and I try to take all the classes she offers at the Country Loft.
Our prep work for the class was to make the Bear Paw blocks.  I have several done as well as a few of the single ones for the outside edge. I look forward to the class tomorrow.  Catherine always stretches my skills and that I really enjoy.
The class is with so many great friends...I love taking classes when we not only do something new but we enjoy the laughter and the time together....I will take a few pictures tomorrow to share...
Small pieces seem to be in my 2013 picture :). If you recall I mentioned the value of starch in a previous post...this is where it matters!!!!

I have a new blog I am following and want to share it with you so you can also enjoy also!  Cindy Sew Cindy is a great gal and  does some fun things.  I love connecting with new bloggers :) It is fun to make new friends in so many different places....check her out!  You will enjoy!

Need to go get my "stuff" together for class....have a fun Saturday whereever you are. I do hope you have sunshine, laughter and good times!

Remember - SMILE always...

Staying on track....

Happy Wednesday to all of you!  Hope you are doing fun things or at least productive things or doing just what you want!!!.  :)
So far this week I have worked, finished a book and started a small project on my "to-do" list for 2013. I also had the fun of having Lisa Bongean (from Primitive Gatherings) visit our Loft on Monday.  She is in SoCal doing some classes in the area and stopped by to visit several of the local quilt shops.  She is so friendly and loved our little shop!

On my list for 2013 was a project that I had cut but then just put away.  I wanted to get it finished because it was small, fun and used scraps!  A good thing for sure.
The project was a "Mystery Quilt" dinner class that we had last year at the Loft..  A good friend - Colleen - taught the class.  I didn't attend but I got the pattern. Most of the gals took home the completed top and that was done in an evening but it was so cute....It is just so much fun to see all the fabrics people select.

This picture is so sad...it shows very little excitement but trust me - it is fun.  I used homespun plaids and checks along with shirting fabrics. Not sure what I will use for sashing but I will show you soon.
I have two more blocks to do and then sash them together :)
It is sometimes a challenge to use what we have - do you really believe me???? but I wanted to use what I had and not buy one piece of fabric - think I can do it!

I also selected a new book.  My selections are from the TGT Club Pick list.  They select books that associates have read and give a thumbs up.  So far, the first one was awesome.  We will soon see with #2
I selected - "Outside the Lines" by Amy Hatvany.  I will keep you posted on this as well..

Now...I am heading back to the sewing room and finish the two blocks I have left and then check my stash for sashing borders etc!

Have a wonderful day and I do hope you have sunshine where you are...

Enjoying Sunday....

Do hope you are enjoying your Sunday also...

It is sometimes nice to take a day and not fill it with a list of  "Got to's".  I worked yesterday at the Loft and again tomorrow so I just decided to take it easy today...

If you have been ready here you know I am trying to balance life this year.  I also said I was going to read at least a book a month!  So here it is...January completed and it was so good!

Very good book.  I loved the characters and the story.  A great insight into foster care....

Now my challenge is finding a book for February. Any suggestions? I always have to give myself time before jumping into something else so I am glad I have a few weeks to pick :)

Our class schedule should be on our blog this week.  Take a peek at what classes we are offering. We had such a fun day yesterday at our Open House.  So many came and bought kits and so many signed up for classes.  A great way to start a new year!!!!!

So...back to enjoying my Sunday :) you do the same....

Enjoying my challenge....

It is raining and cold here in San Diego today..  I know many of you are now in the depths of winter and no "so sorry" feelings for us here in San Diego - - I understand....but for us a day of rain, wind and 50 degrees is winter!!

I think I told you I was working on prep for a class in late January...I have so enjoyed the fact I have met my own little challenge...
Small pieces that connect like a puzzle have never been a true success for me - but this time!!!!!  Yahoo...I am enjoying the rewards of taking my time and adding a few new steps...

These are 7" squares (finished) and as you can see I am using scraps.  I need 25 for the quilt and 9 singles.  I'm well on my way - all 25 cut and thinking about the singles but haven't started them yet. The class is the 25th and I can't wait....
#1 challenge - use starch on all fabric before cutting ---- I bet most of you do this but I really never committed to do this step. All I can say is I am now a believer and will keep a gallon of Best Press in my sewing room. I just love it....this one has no smell but some just smell so fresh!
I've read of many different starches you can use but I really like this....let me know if you have a better suggestion :)

#2 - new product -- this is a little square (from Jo Morton) that I just love "BLOC LOC...I have read many reviews - some positive but not all are. most common comment- it's expensive and just OK.  For me!!!!!  A keeper...It locks on the seam so I don't have any "slips" with my cutter when I trim.  This one is
1 1/2" but they come in many sizes.

#3 - I love keeping a box of Snack storage bags in my room. It's just a "good thing".... These are ready to sew.  All pieces cut to size.

Traditional Tuscan Minestrone Soup
....So now I'm going down and making a big pot of soup for dinner...If you follow Pinterest they have great soups!!! This one is... "Tuscan Minestrone Soup"

Work tomorrow at the Country Loft...Saturday we have our Open House to share our new classes, BOM and kits...Stop by or check us out on line...Country Loft. Two beautiful BOM's for you.  We do many via mail so take a peek!

Hope you are enjoying your New Year and you are learning something new - if not just have fun and don't worry about anything!

Remember - SMILE always...

It's January......

Happy New Year to all....

I do hope everyone had a safe and happy New Year.  We did the traditional thing for us and stayed home.  By New Year's I am so ready for some down time.......boooooooring I know!!!!!!!

I DO NOT make resolutions each year but I am starting to take a look back and see what I would like to do differently in the next year.  For me the word is BALANCE.....My better half has an expression that we all understand in our family....
DON'T TRY TO PUT 25 POUNDS IN A 5 POUND SACK !!!
If you think about it, we all do it all the time....just not my family :)

Not the time to bore you with all I put in my sack last year but  I will tell you it got the best of me more often than not.  I certainly enjoyed what I did but I did to much!  End of story.

I want to balance my world and enjoy more of what I do and not do more than I have the time to enjoy -

So where do I begin????
This is where I am going to start ....I have posted a few projects I need to finish and a few I want to make.  This is also a reminder each time I walk in or out of my sewing room about my 5 pound sack :)
Note in RED the title of a book. - I want to read more this year to rest my little brain from "thought created turmoil". Title - Language of Flowers and yes...I have started it already!

Don't get me wrong - I had a great year last year but I know I can create a little calmer world to put myself in each day if I try.
I will soon show you my progress on a quilt I am doing starting in late January. We have been asked to get some prep work done and I am doing just that! I also have a great tool I am using and I will share that as well....
But for now...it's my honeys birthday and I am going to go start a wonderful dinner for him :)

Hope your first few days of 2013 have been peaceful and full of sunshine...Something great about starting anew....love it!!!!

Talk to you soon....until then...
