The days just fly away.....

Happy Thursday everyone!

I have been planning to post for a few days now and I have also been determined to get my Bears Paw quilt top completed!!!!! Neither "won" but here I am....  Remember - I am on a self imposed schedule this year - ha ha....
The fact my husband has been away (until later this evening) has also given me the time to quilt and not do all the other things a day requires i.e. cooking etc.... However, I am so happy to have him home :)....as a matter of fact can't wait!!!!!

So I have been successful to this point!
I don't have the borders on yet but the corners are on and it's ready for the borders.  They are all cut and ready to go....
I have so enjoyed making this quilt.  The detail and small pieces I find so rewarding to do!  I also love scrap quilts and this was one that all "paws" were made from scraps!

I am heading to Seattle Sunday to spend a few days with my daughter, son in law and the little munchkins...My son in law is having surgery so I am going to help with the little ones.  Such a chore - huh?? I am soooooo anxious to see them!!!  Little Emma is just about ready to take her first step...maybe I will get to see it :) and Cooper - well he keeps you busy each and every minute....

I had to take a project with me because 5 days with no sewing would be a real challenge.  I have a small quilt I will hand quilt while away and do a little work on another project -
A little bit of English Paper Piecing will work just fine...at least get a start! This is a pattern by Kathy Cardiff from the Cottage at Cardiff Farms...

I always like a small project in process and this is mostly hand work...

I will be returning just in time to work the "Shop Hop" here in San Diego...It should be fun to so many great quilters and get inspired by all of them.

When reading all the great blogs my mental list of projects just keeps growing!!!!How do you keep it in check?  Or do you just start another project???? It's a challenge just like saying "I don't need another piece of fabric"...sometimes it works - sometimes it doesn't....

Have a great week-end.  I will be back next week but will be reading all of your blogs even while I'm
away....so until next week...

Two steps forward...one step back!!!

Good morning to everyone...

Did you ever think you were finally at the end of a project and then find out -----you made a mistake  :)
Bet you have never done that... but I sure have....ha ha...

I am working on my Bears Paw quilt and I told myself that I had to have everything cut and ready to sew together before I could even look at another project!  Yesterday I thought I was there...but...NOT...

Needed 25 of these - complete!!!
Needed 9 of these = complete!

Needed 24 of these 9 patch blocks - complete - NOT

Notice the blocks - 5 dark and 4 lights....I had already sewn two rows of the quilt together and they looked so good.  But when I made the remaining 22 blocks guess what I did????
Yup....I did 4 dark and 5 lights!!!!!!
If I was a true "free spirit" I would have said OK... I will leave them this way, but it isn't in me to do that so.....

My new best friend and I got busy ...:) rip, rip, rip!!!

Now as usual, I try to see what I may have learned with the exercise....its just my way of justifying me making a mistake but this time I liked what I learned....
I recently read that seam rippers get dull over time and just like our rotary blades...rippers need to be changed as well. Since I was ripping such small pieces I thought I should use another ripper. I looked around and all I could find was a seam ripper I bought ....who knows when or where.... but it was all I had so I used it...LOVE IT!!!!!!
It's sharp and has 4 replacement blades....I have a few friends that use their rotary cutters as seam rippers but this is basically the same process but you have good control with it! I could never feel comfortable using my rotary cutter :) I got them apart in no time!

So I am now heading back to my sewing room and take that one step forward again...I will get to the end of prepping today and then just maybe I will look at another project!!!!

Have a super day and...

Cleaning up....

I don't know about you but I have so many little projects that just sit there and never get done.  All I do is move them from one spot to another...As part of my New Years challenge I will try to finish the ones I like and get rid of the ones that I know I will never finish.  You know that theory about cleaning closets..."three piles - one for trash, one to keep and one I'm not sure pile"???? Well, for me, I am doing just that....it's just amazing all the things we start and then just forget about!  I am making piles :)

Here is one I decided to keep...and yes finish!
This was part of a Christmas project.  The 9 patch and the snow ball blocks did not line up at all once they were sewn together...So, Super Bowl Sunday (while watching the game) I took it all apart.  The next day I trimmed them all the same size and sewed them together again!  Success...I selected a cute border and backing fabric and will now hand quilt it and SMILE because I will finish it and love it....  :)

I love the border print - I think it;s Everlastings from Moda...
I will also use it as backing...

My last post  I showed you the BIG quilt I made for our bed.  It has been sitting in my living room just begging for binding, a trip to the washing machine and then get put on the bed where it was intended to be
8 years ago....
So today, I sewed on 450 inches of binding and I will have it stitched down and on our bed by next week-end!!! Trust me - that was alot of binding :)

It does feel good to get things done...I have many more things in my three piles but I will forge ahead one at a time and then enjoy the result.  Yes, even with those that I won't keep I will feel good getting them to a new home or give away...

Did I also mention, I have been doing the same thing with our closets this week as well....I think its a quirk of mine but I love the feeling of being productive.  Like making a list so I can cross things off :)  It only happens in spurts so I will take the opportunity when my mind sends me in that direction....

Hope everyone has a wonderful week-end.  I for one am glad I don't have a major storm to deal with...hope all those on the East coast can stay warm and keep their power...

Until next time...

Eight years ago...

It's Friday...and its Super Bowl week-end!!!!!  Not much better than this :)

Eight years ago in anticipation of our first grandson I made him a quilt.  I didn't do a baby quilt, instead I used lots of reds and made it large enough for a twin bed  When it was complete I had so much fabric left that I just started to make 4 patches with alternating muslin squares.  I liked it because it was so simple.  I then added to it with other scraps I had until it was large enough to use on our Cal King bed....I think about 98 x 110.
and then......I put it in a box and left it there for 8 years.  Life was very busy during those eight years, with working full time and all that goes with that and just never taking the time to quilt anything.
I would run across it every now and then and think - "how nice it would be to have that on our bed" but that was only a thought and life went on....

Then....a few years ago I was home all the time and really got back into what I love doing - QUILTING....
During this past year or so I created some great friendships at our quilt shop and one of the gals has a longarm....and I finally got a backing together and gave it to Colleen to quilt.

Here it is..... :)
It's very large and very heavy so being alone this was the best shots I could get :)

I love it and once it has a binding on it and is washed I will put it on our bed and take a great picture....
Look at the quilting - Colleen does excellent work and this is just what I like - nothing real fancy but warm and homey :)
Thank Colleen....

This quilt is special to me...it takes me on a journey of memories from when it started to now.  Along the way much has happened and people have come in and out of my life... but it represents  all  that is good.  That's what quilting is all about!!!!  for me anyway :)

Hope you all enjoy your Super Bowl party where ever you go!  We are cheering with family and eating tons of good food!!!

Enjoy and have fun!
